Marriage Counseling

I get weekly requests for marriage counseling recommendations, or if I have appointments available to do marriage counseling. I had been leery of sending couples to someone I did not know because of the crisis in marriage therapy. I wrote about the hazards of marriage counseling a few years ago and since then have created the only experience-required, pro-commitment marriage counseling resource in the nation. Therapists have to be licensed at least three years (and it takes about 2 years to even get a marriage license in most states so it's really 5 years of experience, plus pre-graduation therapy hours.) Marriage counselors also have to sign a values statement saying they value marriage and while divorce is sometimes inevitable it is not something the marriage counselor believes is necessary for most marriages.

Check out this nationwide resource: www.MarriageFriendlyTherapists.com and if you know a marriage counselor who would be a great fit, let them know about this important movement to help couples help, not hurt, their marriages.
